To be honest when I removed the starter, I had quite bad feelings about it. The shaft was seized, and the whole thing looked like a big pile of rusty junk. After a quick media blast, the feeling did not faded, nor did it after dismantling the item.
Such things are usualy easier to throw away and get a new or even better one then to save. But this particular starter is definitely the original part of the car: it is not only the correct type, but even the correct date is stamped in it. This is part of the heritage, soo we decided to go thurder.
Even the housing beared enormous amout of rust. The first good sign was, that the pinion assemly was free from rust at the critical points. The pinion teeths were saveable after a bit of grinding.
The stater received all new bearings, insulations, springs, and a normal going over, like media blasting, painting, plating, blackening etc.
All it needs now is a cover. Tested, and it works.
